ROMANCE de TANGO
The Nuevo Tango Musical
Crosses cultural boundaries to tell Tango's secret stories in an unprecedented way
Unprecedented in form and artistic expression, Romance de Tango is "a Broadway-worthy" (Westhampton Press) magical tale of love, death and rebirth told through the powerful and "seductive" language of Nuevo Tango music, poetry and dance. The undeniable modern style of Leonardo Suarez Paz coupled with a complete break from the stereotypical format of the tango show, marks new territory in the genre as the cast of ROMANCE DE TANGO with seven musicians, four dance couples and an actor tell the real but untold stories of tango, from the grandiose to the most intimate in a show that is "filled with all the virtues of tango" (All About Jazz).

Leonardo Suarez-Paz, could hardly have been anything but a tango player. Born in Buenos Aires ... Suarez-Paz is tango royalty. With his dark good looks and impeccable manners, Suarez-Paz might himself be a screen star someday, especially given that the start of his American career could have come right out of an MGM backstage musical.

THE STORY
Somewhere between heaven and hell, between memories and dreams and the fog of Riachuelo, lies a secret island, the dreamscape where all of the tango stories coexist and are brought to life by "el duende," a magical spirit of music. He plays the violin and breaths life and color into those who stroll in the shadows at dusk, ensuing a wild carnival and revealing secrets as they dance in a milonga, become seduced and transformed, watlz and fall in love, betray and forgive, witness the ethereal essence of childhood and celebrate life with the exiting, rhythmical candombe.
LEONARDO SUAREZ PAZ "virtuoso extraordinaire on the violin" (Wynton Marsalis), composer, singer and choreographer, takes his experience as a soloist of major tango orchestras and shows (Mariano Mores, Horacio Salgan, Atilio Stampone, Osvaldo Berlingieri, Tangox2, Perfumes de Tango) and Broadway's (Forever Tango, Tango Argentino) to create a new way of expression through the genre of tango, a vision that was passed on to him by his mentors and family friends Astor Piazzolla and Horacio Ferrer and his parents Fernando & Beatriz Suarez Paz. From his childhood, in the cradle of tango to his artistic debut at the age of 6 as a singer, to becoming the youngest member of the Teatro Colon Opera House at age 16 as a violinist, to plying as a soloist and dancing with all of the major tango stars on the world's most important stages, he embodies the complexity of tango and is known as a major creator of the modern iteration of the genre.
