PROJECTS
Leonardo Suarez Paz's PIAZZOLLA 100
Leonardo Suarez Paz’s Piazzolla 100 is an interdisciplinary performing arts project that showcases a groundbreaking new style, a unifying artistic language for the Americas which draws on the common roots of Tango and Jazz and Classical Music, as shaped by the culture of African and European migration to the new world. Representing the culture of Tango in all of its forms of expression, music, dance, poetry and art, this project affords an opportunity for generations of artists across genres and disciplines to come together and express through a renewed artistic idiom of cultural unity under the artistic direction of Leonardo Suarez Paz, whose mentors Astor Piazzolla and Horacio Ferrer revolutionized the genre.
The project includes multiple events in NYC beginning in June of 2021, along with a touring program. We celebrate Piazzolla’s trailblazing legacy by demonstrating how the language of Nuevo Tango continues to evolve as a complex urban genre, fueled by the desires, values and artistic influences of the immigrant community.
The project is dedicated to celebrating the rebirth of Nuevo Tango as an art form born of multiple cultural heritages, mirroring the cultural milieu that gave birth to both Jazz and Argentine Tango at the turn of last century.
