PIAZZOLLA100
Diversity, Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Policy
Born from the fusion of African, Latin, European, and Indigenous heritages and the cultural influences of Buenos Aires and New York City, tango was developed by immigrants in conjunction with local populations as not only an art form but a sociocultural movement that promoted freedom and inclusivity. These same elements drive nuevo tango’s evolution today. We expand on tango’s inherent capacity to connect people across all backgrounds and cultures and create relevant narratives that underline our shared humanity.
Leonardo Suarez Paz’s PIAZZOLLA100 artists, staff and advisors are a culturally, ethnically, and socially diverse group, which mirrors the same diversity that gave birth to our genre. Our work environment promotes diversity, justice, equity, solidarity, and inclusion and holds these values to be at a part of our creative practice and in support of our mission of unity through the arts, cross-cultural collaboration as well as the celebration of the multiple heritages.
Leonardo Suarez Paz’s PIAZZOLLA100 a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace where all artists, employees and volunteers, whatever their gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, sexual orientation or identity, education or disability, feel valued and respected. We are committed to a nondiscriminatory approach and provide equal opportunity for employment and advancement for all. We respect and value diverse life experiences and heritages and ensure that all voices are valued and heard.
To provide informed, authentic leadership for cultural equity, PIAZZOLLA100 is committed to:
• See diversity, inclusion, and equity as connected to our mission and critical to ensure the well- being of our staff and the arts communities we serve.
• Acknowledge and dismantle any negative stereotypes and inequities within our organization
• Explore potential underlying, unquestioned assumptions that interfere with inclusiveness
• Advocate for and support board-level thinking about how systemic inequities impact our work, and how best to address that in a way that is consistent with our mission.
• Help to challenge assumptions about what it takes to be a strong leader at our organization, and who is well-positioned
to provide leadership.
• Practice and encourage transparent communication in all interactions.
• Lead with respect and tolerance. We expect all employees including artists, staff and board to embrace this notion and to express it
in workplace interactions and through everyday practices.
